12/7/04 events

These are a few events listed in Nashville Rage paper that caught my eye.

Looks like this is the place to be gang:

SHORTSETS. Hosted by COLE SLIVKA and featuring JENNY MADISON, KATE YORK and JOE PAGETTA. One of the city’s most consistently cool writer’s nights, featuring tunesmiths who primarily dwell outside of the Nashville mainstream. Tonight Cole brings back York, who is fresh from universally praised performances opening for Mindy Smith and Tift Merritt at the Belcourt. She’s just issued her debut EP on Atlanta-based Paste Records. 8pm, The Family Wash, free.

More on Pagetta from Nashville Scene Paper:

The New Jersey native's new album, Joywood, proves he's absorbed heartland influences since moving to Nashville in 1998. Working with producer George Marinelli, Pagetta has created a sweet roots-rock collection packed with mandolins, chiming pop melodies and easy rhythms. His clear, light voice expresses lyrics that probe growing up and learning to deal more maturely with love, temptation and responsibility.

Other Venues:

* BILLY BLOCK’S WESTERN BEAT. Featuring JIMMY BARRETT showcase (7pm); Curb artist LEE BRICE (8pm); popular local roots rockers THE COAL MEN (8:30pm); Americana artist STEVEN SIMMONS (9pm); songwriter WYNN VARBLE (9:30pm); and country-rocker DAVE GIBSON (10pm). 7pm, Exit/In, $5.

CB SONGWRITERS NIGHT. With host JACOB EARLES. 6:30pm, The Gibson Showcase, free, all ages.

* CHICK SINGER NIGHT. Hosted by JACLYN BROWN with CHRISTINA WATSON, ASHLEY PAGE, BENITA HILL, BRITT SAVAGE and ELIZABETH COOK. Now in its 16th year, this national " songfest for female artists " has outlets in other cities, but you’d be hard-pressed to beat the acts they have lined up here, running the gamut from country to folk to pop. 9pm, Bluebird Cafe, $8. LIVE AUDITION TALENT SHOW. 8:30pm, Nashville Palace, $5.
